Tea Cup Friendship
Mastering Art and Boba
Some friendships are built on small talk, but ours was forged in the quiet, soulful spaces where channeling, crystals, and dream-reading are just part of the conversation. Whether we are navigating humid Texas summers, sketching new artistic paths, or boarding flights across the globe, we remain deeply connected. This poem-article is a tribute to my dear Jieun. It is a celebration of our shared laughter, quiet understanding, and the sweet, chewy comfort of a friendship that continues to grow and thrive.

I still recall that humid summer haze,
When email screens set our worlds ablaze.
Two strangers sharing one weird Texas town,
We chose to meet and tear our borders down.
How quickly you became my truest light,
A steady hand to hold me through the night.
Through rising tides and daily ups and downs,
We chased down boba tea in different towns.
You know I channel and breathe in the skies,
But never judge me with your quiet eyes.
You saw me weep, heard my laughter ring,
Through every heavy season life can bring.
We speak of everything beneath the sun,
Of sacred spirits and what makes us run.
With secret codes that only we can land,
And unique, healing crystals in each hand.
You trust me with the dreams to read,
And hear about the new man in my lead.
You show me which paintbrushes to choose,
To trace my canvas and reclaim my hues.
While you sketch bones and skeletal frames,
Giving those quiet, nameless bodies names,
I search for where my own art might awake,
For lines and colors that are ours to make.
And when I shared the dream I keep inside,
I saw your warm, almond eyes light wide.
Though Africa still fills my heart with fear,
A bold, sweet “Let’s go!" is the voice I hear.
For such a hermit, you’re a faithful friend,
With hours we always find the time to spend.
We don’t just let our precious bond survive;
We tend the soil and watch the garden thrive.
Now, high above, the Philippine sea gleams,
I watch the clouds and replay all our scenes.
You’ll stay forever in my heart’s design,
Until we meet again for boba and dine.
